A massive traffic accident that occurred this Sunday, February 11 in the province of Artemisa left 37 people injured, this after a truck transporting a group of militants from the Union of Young Communists (UJC) overturned in the road.
According to information shared in the state press, the young people were heading home after having finished a day of voluntary work in the fields ordered by the Communist Party (PCC).
The official newspaper The Artemiseño He indicated that the truck had an accident at some point during its return, however, he did not reveal further details of the incident.
Five of the injured had to be rushed to the Comandante Pinares and National hospitals, which are located in the provinces of Pinar del Río and Havana, respectively.
The rest of those involved were treated in the municipality’s polyclinic system, as they did not have injuries that put their lives at risk.
The volunteer of the Community Operations and Relief Group (GMOS) of San Cristóbal, Alieny de la Caridad Aranda Ruiz, declared to the aforementioned media that the incident occurred around 11:30 am
“I was there since the incident began. He was in an activity called by the Union of Young Communists (UJC) of San Cristóbal for voluntary work. “Our car was in front and the car behind was the one that was injured,” he indicated.
While the causes that caused the spectacular accident are officially unknown, the woman points out that there are those who believe that the driver may have lost control of the wheel at one of the intersections.
“It was around 11:49 in the morning. The ZIL 130 Truck or V8 as it is popularly known, was on the Harlem junction in Bahia Honda. Until the moment I was at the scene, it was said that it could have been the loss of control of the rudder. The transmission bar broke and the two rear wheels on the right side came loose,” he added.
Serious injuries
State media indicated that the 37 injured were between 18 and 68 years old, and that due to their injuries, seven of them were classified as serious. These patients were transferred to different hospitals, depending on the type of injuries they suffered.

Multiple cranial traumas: four people, with 2 being taken to the Calixto García Hospital and 2 to the Abel Santamaría Hospital in Pinar del Río.
