Massive Third Day of Strike in Centre-Val de Loire to Protest Pension Reform – February 7, 2023

This Tuesday, February 7, the unions are calling for a third day of strike to protest against the pension reform plan of the government of Emmanuel Macron. 17 gatherings are planned in the Centre-Val de Loire region.

Demonstrations call for others. Third episode this Tuesday, February 7 of a protest against the pension reform very followed in Center-Val de Loire. At issue, in particular: the postponement of the retirement age from 62 to 64, a point deemed “non-negotiable” by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. Another protest movement is already scheduled for Saturday, February 11.

The demonstrations bring together a lot of people. According to the prefecture, 8,500 people were mobilized in Orleans on Tuesday January 31. The event will still be followed this Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

In the Centre-Val de Loire region, 17 gatherings are planned for this Tuesday, February 7 in all departments.

So, what should we expect in the street for these three new days of demonstration? Sébastien Nugou, secretary general CGT Cheminot of the Center-Val de Loire region ensures that the movement is still very followed. “We had two big mobilizations in the region with several hundred railway workers who participated in the processions”, the equivalent of one in two railway workers. On the striker side, 50 to 60% stopped work on January 19 and around 40 to 50% on January 31.

“The current government reform is experienced as a provocation”, assures Sébastien Nugou. The reasons ? “With all the sacrifices that have been requested for ten years, it’s the drop of water too many“. A mobilization that affects the workers but also the management according to him. He also specifies that a call for strikes will be followed on February 7 but also on February 8.

Nevertheless, Sébastien Nugou is cautious about the demonstrations on Saturday February 11, which do not necessarily coincide with a larger mobilization: “There is a tendency to associate demonstrations with walkouts and strikes in companies. On Saturdays, we speak less to the working population but to people who have more difficulty going on strike.
