JAKARTA – Large supernova explosion SN 2023ixf, caught by sophisticated telescopes, in Rome, Italy. Unfortunately, for the territory of Indonesia, this rare natural phenomenon cannot be witnessed.

However, the massive explosion that occurred on Friday, May 26 can be watched online via YouTube.

“Supernova SN 2023ixf, is one of the largest and smartest seen in a decade,” wrote Space, quoted Sunday (28/5/2023).

The exploding star was first seen in this image taken by Supernova Hunter Koichi Itagaki, from Yamagata, Japan, Friday May 19, 2023.

These initial observations were followed by the Zwicky transient facility (ZTF) telescope in California, which confirmed the discovery, on Saturday 20 May.

“The proximity of SN 2023ixf and the fact that the star has brightened from its initial magnitude have made the supernova a popular target for amateur astronomers with telescopes,” he continued.

This new supernova is located in the Galaxy Messier 101 (or M101), also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, home to an asterism known as the Big Dipper, a popular observation target for novice astronomers.

“Because it massively exploded, astronomers have been studying the supernova with more sophisticated and out-of-this-world equipment, including the Hubble Space Telescope,” he said.
