Massive screening for Tahiti and Moorea to begin soon

Thanks to the new tests arrived by the last flight of territorial continuity, the direction of the health announces that it will proceed to massive screenings. Up to 120 per day. The goal is to obtain a much finer map of the epidemic.

120 tests per day in the Windward Islands

The last territorial continuity flight had covid-19 screening tests in its hold. During today’s press briefing, Laurence Bonnac-Théron, the director of health, did not specify the exact number. However, it announces that massive screenings will now be implemented. The test capacities are 120 per day for ten days. This will provide a much finer mapping of the epidemic and adapt measures accordingly. Other tests will arrive by the next continuity flight.

Not all people will be tested

Indeed, the number of tests is not the only criterion, it also requires an ability to perform them with field teams and an ability to analyze the results. Only the Malardé Institute and the Taaone hospital have these capacities in the country. The tests will concern all people with symptoms, their entourage and all professionals in contact with the covid-19, firefighters, paramedics, aircraft crews.

Covid-19 test drive

The Malardé Institute will set up a drive-in system for people tested in order to limit contact with staff. For those unable to travel, a flying team will go to the districts or homes concerned.

Residents of confined islands will be able to return

The arrival of these new test capacities will also make it possible to bring out of confinement a certain number of inhabitants of the islands currently isolated in a hotel on the East Coast. If they test negative and if their respective tavana accepts it, they should be allowed to return to their islands, provided of course that a flight or a boat can bring them there.

A first assessment will be made at the end of the week following these new screenings.
