After Kiev woke up on Tuesday to the sound of explosions, military officials in the Ukrainian capital made it clear that it had been subjected to a massive Russian attack.
Serhiy Popko, head of the military administration for the city of Kiev, said in statements he posted on the Telegram application that Russia carried out a heavy air attack on Kiev in the early hours of this morning.
He also added that the Russian forces used drones, cruise missiles, and possibly ballistic missiles, in the eighth raid this month (May).
He also emphasized that the raid was exceptional in its intensity, as it dropped the maximum number of offensive missiles in the shortest period of time.
He explained, “According to preliminary information, the vast majority of missiles and drones were destroyed.”
The mayor, Vitali Klitschko, in turn confirmed earlier today that explosions occurred in Kiev and the Solomyansky region.
It is noteworthy that, after a hiatus of weeks, Russia resumed its long-range missile strikes in late April. And launched in recent days a wave of air strikes, which often target the capital.
While the Ukrainian forces were preparing to launch their counterattack, which was expected weeks ago, before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky returned and explained that the aforementioned attack had been slightly postponed despite the military preparations, in order to avoid heavy human losses.
