The non-profit housing company of the city of Linz (GWG) is renovating and renovating more than 400 residential units as part of a large-scale reconstruction project in the Franckviertel (Wimholzel-Hinterland).
The old and no longer up-to-date building fabric is being replaced by new, modern residential properties. In the course of the construction work, it is also necessary to redesign and redesign the streets in this area. In accordance with the new legally effective development plan and the relevant road ordinance, the public traffic areas of Krinnerstrasse, Kronbergerstrasse, Memhardstrasse and Engelmannstrasse as well as a large part of Schreberstrasse are now being gradually closed. In return, Stieglbauernstrasse and Helletzgruberstrasse will be widened along the new GWG housing estate.
This year it is planned to widen the lanes to 3.50 meters along the newly created GWG development from Ing.-Stern-Straße to the height of the former Engelmannstraße.
This also requires sidewalk relocations on the south side of Stieglbauernstrasse and on the north side of Helletzgruberstrasse. Furthermore, in the course of widening the roadway, adjustments to the surface and the adaptation of the drainage systems are necessary. At the junctions with Ing.-Stern-Straße, the edges of the road and a green island will be adapted to the new situation. “The first apartments in the Wimholzel hinterland should be completed or handed over this year. The street conversions and expansions or the redesign of the street space are carried out concomitantly. The corresponding construction work will be carried out from mid-July to the end of August 2023. The city of Linz has funds of 130,000 from the road construction budget available for this purpose,” informs the Linz mobility officer, Deputy Mayor Mag. Martin Hajart.
In addition, the public lighting will be adapted to the new conditions and the changed street space.
