Some asymptomatic patients detected in the periodic screenings carried out on the workers were those who turned on all the alarms last Saturday. The next day, on Sunday, the Sanatorio Marítimo carried out PCR tests on all users of their residence and 79 of them were positive. A very high number if you take into account that 128 people reside in the center.
The outbreak is given, what’s more, just a few days after the second vaccine was administered at the center on January 28. The first dose had been applied on January 7 to practically all, between 97 and 98% of users and workers.
As he has told in BE Gijón Santiago Ablanedo, technical director of the Sanatorium, those users who have tested negative they remain in individual rooms or in other units of the residence under control in case “there are new infections in the next few days.”
Practically all the residents’ families are informed and maintain open communication with the Sanatorio Marítimo through WhatsApp. Since Sunday, a technician from the Ministry of Health supervises and dictates the steps to follow at the center.
