As hot water and heating supply was cut off in the Yangcheon-gu and Guro-gu areas of Seoul, more than 37,000 households shivered in the cold all night.

This happened when a water leak occurred in the water supply facility that supplies heat to the area.

It took a whopping 22 hours for restoration to occur, causing great inconvenience to the residents.

First, reporter Ryu Hyun-jun will report.

Dense steam is billowing out from water facilities in downtown Seoul.

A valve burst at a pressurized plant, a district heating facility in Yangcheon-gu.

A pressurization plant is a facility that applies pressure to hot water and pushes it to a remote residential complex.

However, while repairing the valve connected to the pump yesterday afternoon, water burst out due to damage at the bottom, and the pressurized plant was filled with hot water reaching up to 100 degrees.

Houses that receive hot water from a pressurized plant had their heating cut off overnight.

″It’s snowy and cold today, and I’m feeling a bit frustrated because it’s happening like this. (The floor) is cold, so I’m wearing socks right now.”

Hot water was cut off in over 37,000 households, ranging from an apartment in Mok-dong Complex 9, just 500 meters away from the pressurization plant, to an apartment in Sinjeong-dong, 3.7 kilometers away.

Residents had to endure the cold all night long by turning on electric blankets and wearing clothes and blankets.

I suffered great inconvenience, such as going to work in the morning without even washing properly.

″(Yesterday evening) After 7 o’clock, I was washing and suddenly cold water came out. “I’m going to work like this this morning without even washing up.”

As recovery was slow, Seoul Energy Corporation began emergency recovery by repairing the pressurization plant and creating a bypass pipe to send hot water, and resumed hot water supply at 2:05 pm today, 22 hours after the accident.
