Massive health data leak: CNIL recommendations

The French press revealed, at the end of February 2021, the internet publication of a file containing the medical data of nearly 500,000 people. The publisher of software for healthcare establishments concerned has identified among its customers 28 medical analysis laboratories affected by this leak. The company informed these laboratories.

The National Commission for Informatics and Liberties (CNIL) published on February 24, 2021 a note on the leakage of these health data.

More generally, in 2020, according to the CNIL, there was a 24% increase in data breach notifications (with 2,825 cases). For the same year, the CNIL also counts a threefold increase in violations linked to attacks by cryptolockers on health establishments (hospital center, clinic, EPHAD, nursing home, laboratories …) with 36 proven violations.
