At least nine people were killed on Saturday due to a huge fireworks explosion in a shopping area in the Thai city of Sungai Kolok, on the border with Malaysia.
More than 100 people were injured, according to local media. Some of them are in serious condition.
The disaster was probably caused by carelessness during welding activities in the warehouse.
The havoc in the vicinity of the exploded fireworks trade was great. More than 200 homes and shops were severely damaged. Some had their entire roof blown off.
Relief efforts started quickly. Soldiers from a neighboring barracks were deployed, among others.
