NEW YORK — A raging fire destroyed a building in the Bronx Wednesday morning, injuring 9, including a firefighter.
The 2-alarm incident occurred at about 6:38 a.m. on the third floor of the five-story building located in the 289 Bonnier Place and the flames spread to the fourth floor where there were several apartments, the New York City Fire Department said.
About 120 firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene until the flames were under control around 8 in the morning. A total of 9 people suffered minor injuries, including a firefighter, who were transported to hospitals in the area.
“I was running down the stairs here…everything burned, my money, my cell phone,” said one of the affected residents.
The Red Cross was helping residents who lost their belongings.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
