Massive Fire Destroys Maras Ice Cream Factory in Waalwijk

The Maras ice cream factory in Waalwijk was completely reduced to ashes in a very large fire on Friday evening. The flames rose meters high from the roof at the building on Industrieweg. The roof has collapsed and there is not much left of the building. No one was injured in the fire.

The fire broke out in the ice cream factory just before half past nine. The fire brigade was present with a lot of equipment. Aerial platforms, several tankers and a drone were used to fight the fire.

Explosions and black smoke
According to our 112 correspondent, explosions were heard from inside the building. “Probably from the boilers in the building,” he thought.

There was also a lot of black smoke visible in the surrounding area. ‘Fortunately’ it passed over a meadow, towards the east of Waalwijk, said a spokesperson for the Central and West Brabant Safety Region. People affected by the smoke were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

The fire was given control around ten to one. However, the fire brigade spent a good part of the night extinguishing the fire. The roof of the building has collapsed and according to the safety region the entire building must be considered lost.

The cause of the fire is unknown. No one was injured.
