A large, raging fire raged in an apartment for vulnerable people in Dordrecht on Sunday and Monday night. There had also been a fire the night before. The fire was probably lit at that time, reports the South Holland South Safety Region.

This fire probably also started in the vacant apartment where a fire broke out last weekend, it reports AD. As far as we know, there were no injuries this time either.

The fire broke out last night around 12:20 am on the eleventh floor and spread to the twelfth and top floor and the side of the residential tower. The fire brigade therefore extinguishes the fire from the inside and outside with an aerial platform. The fact that there is a fairly strong wind (wind force 5) does not make extinguishing the fire any easier.

Residents are taken by bus to the Van der Valk Hotel in Dordrecht, where they are welcomed. Several people were checked for smoke inhalation in the ambulance. It was unclear by two o’clock whether there were still people in the building.

The so-called Short Stay Facility in Dordrecht includes 189 apartments. “Many different people live in the residential tower and we remove them from their isolation, allowing them to participate in society again,” he said describes housing association Woonbron the flat.

‘Wonderful mix of residents’

There is a “wonderful mix of residents”, such as homeless young people and ex-addicts, but also business people and foreign staff. Families who previously had to deal with domestic violence and psychiatric patients can also find a place there through healthcare institutions. Most people live there for a maximum of six months.

“My thoughts are with the innocent residents who had to experience this yesterday and earlier,” Mayor Wouter Kolff wrote X.

For example, fires were reportedly set several times last year. A 28-year-old man from Dordrecht was arrested on suspicion of arson for one of those fires.

The flat was evacuated in October when someone claimed there was a bomb there, it reports AD. In November, the mayor closed one of the apartments for a month because, among other things, there were hard drugs and two weapons found it.
