Massive Eruption at Luang Volcano in Indonesia Sparks Tsunami Concerns – Latest Updates

Ruang Volcano (725m above sea level) is a volcanic island in the Sangihe Islands in Indonesia. In September 2002, a large eruption occurred that sent plumes of smoke up to a height of about 20,000 meters.

Although things have calmed down in recent years, there was an eruption this morning that sent volcanic smoke up to over 13,000 meters, causing panic. This eruption also appears to have sent volcanic smoke up into the upper troposphere, and the volcanic plume was also confirmed by the Himawari 9 meteorological satellite.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has announced the alert level for the explosive activity of the Taal volcano on a scale of 0 to 5. PHIVOLCS has gradually raised its alert level to 4, the second from the highest level, at 8:30 pm Japan time.

Ash was found in the area, and local authorities have issued an evacuation advisory for Taal Volcano Island and Agoncillo and Laurel areas in Batangas due to the risk of pyroclastic flows and tsunamis.

If a large amount of volcanic ash is released into the atmosphere as a result of an eruption, it can have a negative impact on aircraft operations, such as stopping the engines of aircraft that inhale it or damaging the cockpit window glass, making it difficult to see there is a risk of harm.

Although it is not known whether this eruption of the Semeru volcano will cause a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency has announced that they will monitor changes in the level of the massacre.

This is the third such notification, following the eruption of the Manam volcano in March and the Bezimany volcano in May.
