Only the overflow of the reservoir caused colossal damage, and what will happen if the wall breaks, property owners ask

Serious damage was caused by yesterday’s flood in the area of the “Oasis” campsite in Lozenets, a Flagman.bg reporter filmed today.

At the height of the disaster, the “Poturnyashki” dam, located on the slope between the resort village and the village of Velika, began to overflow.

According to eyewitnesses, at one point three huge rivers were formed, which were of terrifying dimensions. They have moved between the Oasis complex and the campsite, taking everything in their path.

Cars were destroyed, ground floors were flooded, two bridge structures that were used by tourists to connect the complex to the beach, a restaurant, a children’s corner, attractions and hundreds of deckchairs and umbrellas were taken away.

The damages amount to hundreds of thousands of BGN. However, this is the small evil, the manager of the beach Dobri Dyulgerov told Flagman.bg today.

“The truth is that we got away with something terrible! I have been signaling for a long time that there is a problem with the “Poturnyashki” dam, which should be released in a controlled manner, not allow the collection of so much water, and build a spillway to have a buffer in such situations,” Dobri Dyulgerov believes.

A beach establishment was washed away after the flood

The reservoir in question is not at all small, and a possible break or crack of the dam wall would cause a disaster of unprecedented dimensions for the Black Sea. It is no coincidence that this was one of the first decisions taken by the Crisis Staff in Tsarevo yesterday – to subject him to continuous monitoring.

The opinion of experts is that the state should immediately take measures to secure this dam and provide additional protective facilities.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in Lozenets, only material damage was caused. Today they were draining the ground floors of the luxury complexes on the seashore. The beach, which is one of the best in Bulgaria, awarded with a “Blue Flag”, was also seriously damaged. Literally, three canyons were formed that dumped tons of sand into the Black Sea.
