Around 700 organizations and activist groups took part in the rally in Manhattan. Democratic Representative Ocasio-Cortez criticized the US government for continuing to approve fossil fuel projects, such as oil and gas drilling. The White House, however, said President Biden had treated climate change as an urgency and an existential threat from day one.
A climate conference will take place on Wednesday as part of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of UN Secretary General Guterres.
