Yes, a rally of civic groups is scheduled here starting at 2pm to raise awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis.
Ahead of the main rally, pre-events are underway as the organizers prepare for the competition.
At about 30 booths along the road, it was noticeable that they were carrying out activities with a message to citizens to protect the environment, such as handing out stickers or holding a signature drive.
This rally, which starts at 2 PM today, is the ‘September 23 Climate Justice March’ hosted by the ‘Climate Justice Action Organizing Committee’, a gathering of over 500 organizations.
Following the activities of Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg in 2018, protests are held every year around the world calling for a response to the climate crisis ahead of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Our country followed suit and held large-scale rallies in September 2019 and last year with the aim of correcting responsibility for causing the climate crisis.
Climate Justice Action argues that warnings of a climate crisis can be seen in numerous scientific evidence and reports, and that the resulting disasters are at a serious level every year, and that the government must take action.
When a climate disaster such as a forest fire or heat wave occurs, the government must take responsibility for the safety of citizens and come up with measures and measures to prevent the climate crisis.
Accordingly, the government is preparing policies and plans to help our society move towards an eco-friendly environment, such as preparing the Carbon Neutral Framework Act.
However, environmental groups are opposing this process, saying that nuclear energy-related responses, such as extending the lifespan of aging nuclear power plants or neglecting the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water, are not appropriate for resolving the climate crisis.
They also argue that the construction of coal-fired power plants using fossil fuels should be stopped.
Let’s listen to the story of an activist participating in today’s rally.

Police believe that about 10,000 people will participate in today’s rally.
After the main rally, participants plan to march in two directions: the Seoul Government Complex and the Presidential Office in Yongsan.
