Things got out of hand when it came time to say it at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening: from the first moments of the match between the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils, all the players in the starting lineup threw down the gloves.
At the heart of this fair: a confrontation between the National League’s new daredevil brawler, Matt Rempe, and the tough guy Kurtis MacDermid.

And we even wondered afterwards if their coaches were not going to imitate them, since Travis Green and Peter Laviolette shouted at each other, from the end of their bench, for long moments. A sequence to see in the video above.
No less than eight players were ejected from the match, and another fight broke out a few minutes later between Dawson Mercer and Will Cuylle. In total, officials had to distribute 164 penalty minutes during these first 20 minutes.
The rest of the match was much calmer, with the referees only raising their arms twice for minor penalties. The Rangers won 4-3 thanks to Chris Kreider’s winning power play goal with five minutes left in regular time.
Alexis Lafrenière scored his 26th goal of the campaign and added an assist on Artemi Panarin’s net. Kaapo Kakko completed the scoring on the winning side.
