Mass testing will begin in the Czech Republic a week before Christmas

According to Hamáček, there will definitely be more than a hundred collection points. 32 fire brigades will also help with testing. And as testing will be paid for by health insurance companies, GPs and dentists will also be able to take part. If this happened, the number of sampling points could reach up to thousands.

Sampling for the antigen test is performed from the nasopharynx, but unlike the most commonly used PCR method at the same time, the evaluation takes about 15 minutes. It is also cheaper and simpler, the disadvantage is less accuracy.

“This whole project should not affect the capacity of testing using PCR tests,” said Hamáček. In practice, screening will be performed in such a way that a person who passes a positive antigen test then goes for a PCR test.
