At least 10 people died in a mass shooting that occurred at a supermarket in New York, United States of Americaon Saturday (14/5) local time.
Two U.S. security officials told Associated Press that the shooting took place at the Tops Friendly Market. However, they could not confirm the total number of people injured in the shooting.
Police in Buffalo, New York, only stated that they had arrested the shooter, without revealing his identity.
One of the US security officials revealed the perpetrator entered the supermarket while carrying a rifle. He then fired blindly.
Eyewitnesses reported that the perpetrator was wearing military-style clothing. Two residents who arrived at the self-service parking lot when the incident had just occurred claimed to have seen the perpetrators leaving the location.
They told me that the man who was thought to be a teenager was white. The suspect was wearing a black helmet and carrying what is believed to be a rifle.
“He was standing there with the gun to his chin. We thought, what happened? Why was the kid holding the gun to his face? He then took off his helmet, dropped the gun, and was arrested by the police,” he said.
Another official stated that the man had broadcast live his action via social networks. Now, the authorities are investigating whether the perpetrators have a criminal track record or not.
Officials are also investigating the possibility that this shooting was related to the issue of racism, considering that the supermarket is located in a black majority area.
According to the official, the investigation is still at a very early stage. They have not been able to reveal the motive of the perpetrators carrying out the action.
