Mass shooting happened again in United States of America. Three people died and another person was seriously injured as a result shooting at a US university on Wednesday (6/12) local time. The perpetrator was shot dead by the police.
Incident at the University of Nevada, Las Vegasnot far from the strip’s tourist-bustling gambling hub, is the latest incident in the United States, where gun violence has become part of daily life.
“Three victims are confirmed deceased,” Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a press conference, as reported by the news agency AFPThursday (7/12/2023).
He said the fourth victim was seriously injured as a result of the shooting, but his condition later improved to stable.
US President Joe Biden in a statement condemned the “horrific acts of gun violence” terrorizing the campus.
Police responded “within minutes” to reports of an active shooter at 11:45 (1945 GMT), McMahill said at a news conference.
Two officers “immediately engaged in gunfire with the suspect” and the suspect “was shot and died at that time,” said university police Chief Adam Garcia.
The incident began while an outdoor student meeting was taking place.
“The students were playing games and eating, there were tables set up for them to build Legos,” said McMahill.
“Had it not been for the heroic actions of one of the responding police officers, there may have been many additional fatalities,” he added.
