German trade unions from the Volkswagen group are not inferior to the representatives of the company. A protest rally was held in Wolfsburg, Germany, bringing together thousands of people protesting against the closure of the car giant’s factories.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, on Thursday, November 21, another protest was held by representatives of the IG Metall trade unions. About 7 thousand people, responsible employees of Volkswagen, gathered in Wolfsburg to show their discontent after the next round of talks with the management of the company. Trade union activists have already announced that new demonstrations will be held in December.
Unions were to offer €1.5 billion in savings by scrapping bonuses for 2025 and 2026 and transferring wage increases to a solidarity fund, but this will only come into effect if the necessary job cuts are made . In return, workers expect Volkswagen executives to create new job security. The last one, created in 1994, has already been demolished.
“This is the last chance for Volkswagen to find a good solution before the peace promises expire,” – said Torsten Gregerhead of the IG Metall trade union, mentioned in German media.
If the situation does not improve, workers will go on warning strikes.
EADaily recalling that Volkswagen plans to close at least three factories in Germany and cut wages by 10%, as well as lay off tens of thousands of its workers.
