Electric car maker Tesla finally brought its long-awaited Semi electric truck to market last December. Now it’s time for the next long-awaited model, the Cybertruck pickup. Tesla CEO Elon Musk answered a question about the start of production of the Cybertruck during the 2022 Q4 financial results conference call.
“We expect to start production. I don’t know, maybe this summer. I always try to slow down the talk about starting production, because it always happens very slowly. Production increases rapidly, but at least at first everything is slow. I don’t put much emphasis on the start of production. For me, the moment when mass production starts is more important. It will be next year,” Musk was quoted as saying.
Cybertruck production has been delayed by several years. Undoubtedly, each such claim by Musk is captured and widely discussed, but these claims should always be viewed with some skepticism.
The model was first shown in 2019 and it was promised that it will enter serial production by the end of 2021. As the deadline approached, Tesla announced that production had been postponed to 2022. Musk then said that production would begin by the end of 2022, however, the Covid pandemic took its toll and Tesla’s priorities were slightly different, so the Cybertruck is still not in production.
In recent months, Tesla has maintained a stable line in communication – production will begin in the middle of 2023. There seems to be a basis for these claims – foreign media explain that the Tesla Gigafactory Texas plant is gradually being supplied with equipment intended for the production of this machine. It has also been rumored that Cybertruck production lines are being built.
It’s pretty certain that Tesla won’t deliver a significant number of Cybertruck units this year. At least the first batch needs to be delivered first, but the Cybertruck is undoubtedly a highly anticipated model and everyone more or less wants to see what it will be like in production.
