The tech giant has set up a human resources strategy different from those of other GAFAMs. Instead of recruiting with a vengeance during the pandemic, Apple preferred to remain reasonable. Its pay force only increased by 20% in the last three years while that of Amazon has doubled, for example.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Tim Cook gave more details on Apple’s situation. In particular, he explained that the company “ is managing its costs very tightly and reducing hiring in some areas while continuing to hire in others “. This is Apple’s secret to avoid laying off thousands of employees at once.
Tim Cook then added that: “ I see layoffs as a last resort. You can never say never. We want to manage costs in other ways where possible “. Employees will therefore only be laid off en masse if Apple cannot find an alternative solution to reduce expenses.
