Mass layoffs at Philips: another 6000 jobs cut | Abroad

Philips is cutting 3,000 jobs worldwide this year. The same number of jobs will disappear in the next two years, the company announced. The layoffs are part of a reorganization initiated by CEO Roy Jakobs. The impact in Belgium is not yet clear.

In October, Philips had already announced that it would reduce its global workforce by 4,000. The new job cuts are on top of that. The group wants to cut 3,000 additional jobs in 2023, and then the same number by 2025.

At the end of December, Philips had a total of more than 77,000 employees. Three months earlier it was about 79,000. Philips employs approximately 300 people in Belgium. The impact here is not clear.

The Netherlands

Philips wants to become leaner in its central services by reducing the number of management steps. With the intervention, the group wants to “simplify” its way of working and “improve agility and productivity”, explains brand new CEO Roy Jakobs.

In the Netherlands, 1,100 jobs will disappear. Employees in Eindhoven, Best and Amsterdam in particular will lose their jobs. In the Dutch capital, the head office is located at the Amstel station, but Philips is leaving there. From 2025, the medical technology company will be located at the Zuidas.
