Mass Global Energy Rom Plans to Build a New Natural Gas Power Plant near BRUA Gas Pipeline with Capacity of 2,500 MW

The investor who bought the Mintia thermal power plant has sent a letter to the Ministry of Energy expressing its interest in building a new natural gas power plant with a capacity of up to 2,500 MW, according to information we have received from industry sources.

The investor would like to be allowed to build on a site close to the route of the BRUA gas pipeline but also close to an important Transelectrica node, in order to be able to access the significant volumes of gas that such a capacity entails and to drain the energy that would be produced here.

The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burdiuja, confirmed, at our request, the information, and added that the investor would like to export, in the future, to Hungary, a large part of the energy that will be produced here.

The Mintia thermal power plant was bought, on August 26, 2022, for 91.23 million euros, without VAT, by Mass Global Energy Rom, part of the Mass Group Holding group, in a public auction. The group is controlled by Jordanian businessman Ahmad Ismail Saleh

The power plant entered insolvency proceedings on November 14, 2019 and went into conservation in the summer of 2021, in the absence of the necessary investments to be able to comply with the environmental regulations of the European Union.

On the Mintia site, the investor would build a new natural gas plant with a capacity of 1,700 MW, which would be the largest such generating unit in Europe. Mass Group signed the contract for the construction and commissioning of the Mintia combined cycle power plant with AVAX Group, one of the oldest and largest construction groups in Greece. The plant will be equipped with Siemens turbines.
