During the forty-five days of the campaign, it is planned to vaccinate
to 390,000 bovine and buffalo animals in Esmeraldas
There have been no outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease for more than 140 months, and with
this campaign is expected to inoculate 390,000 species of bovines and buffaloes
in Esmeraldas and 4.6 million nationwide.
The campaign, which lasts until June 30, is in charge of the
Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), through the Agencia de
Phytoregulation and Control and Animal Health and Control (Agrocalidad).
To carry out the brigade, Agrocalidad provided 1,200 brigade members,
who will travel in these 45 days the Ecuadorian territory. The cost of the
vaccine is 0.60 cents.
The absence of the disease for more than 10 years has allowed breeding
of healthy cattle to produce quality meat and milk, for the consumption of the
Ecuador and the world.
This campaign is vital to boost livestock production and strengthen the
market opening, as well as to maintain the status free of foot-and-mouth disease
that we have since 2015 granted by the World Organization for
OMSA Animal Health, affirms a statement from Agrocalidad.
