‘Greenwood can return to the European top with a transfer: contacts have already been made’

Mason Greenwood is in the concrete interest of Atlético Madrid, Marca reports. The 22-year-old right winger was seriously discredited at Manchester United and is being loaned to Getafe this season, where he is once again making a big impression. Atlético has already made the first contacts to bring in Greenwood.
Getafe was able to sign Greenwood on very favorable terms. The Spanish club acquired 25 percent of the transfer rights for an amount of just one million euros, Marca knows. For that amount, Greenwood will also play on a rental basis at Getafe this season.
Greenwood last played for Manchester United on January 22, 2022. More than a year and a half later, the one-time England international made his return to professional level at Getafe. The youngster logically needed a few weeks to get into match rhythm, but has been performing very well in LaLiga in recent weeks.
Getafe lost only one of the last eight league matches (five wins, two draws). Greenwood produced two goals and three assists in that run of games. Getafe is surprisingly eighth in LaLiga.
Atlético is exploring the possibilities of signing Greenwood. The winger seems to finish the season at Getafe anyway and will then only be stuck with Manchester United for one more season. If the English superpower really does not want to continue, a permanent departure in the summer is obvious.
Getafe seems to be able to benefit financially from the opportunity that the club has offered Greenwood to come back. “We are keeping all options open, even to keep him,” said club owner Ángel Torres. “We are very happy with Greenwood.”
