Blood vessels play the most important role in high blood pressure. When the tension in the vessel walls is increased, for example due to stress, they constrict. The pressure increases. If the blood pressure is permanently too high, it can damage the blood vessels and organs such as the kidneys. Early therapy is therefore important. Usually it is possible to lower the high values somewhat with a change in diet, weight reduction, more exercise or even meditation and mindfulness exercises. If that alone is not enough, antihypertensive drugs are prescribed.
