Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, the global leader in the field of clean energy, announced the signing of an agreement with “Bapco Energies”, the integrated energy group that is leading the transformation of the energy sector in Kingdom of Bahrain, to explore ways of cooperation in investing and developing wind energy projects in the Kingdom with a capacity of up to 2 gigawatts. This agreement for onshore and near-shore wind energy projects is considered a strategic step through which Masdar will enter the Bahraini market, making these projects the first at the company within the Kingdom of Bahrain and the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The total production capacity of the projects will reach 2 gigawatts, and will contribute to supporting the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain to accelerate the process of removing carbon from critical sectors and pave the way for the development of new sectors.
The Kingdom of Bahrain aims to reduce emissions by 30 percent by 2035 and reach climate neutrality in 2060, according to its national energy strategy.
