Maschkov about the Brest Fortress

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Every inch of the ground here is soaked with the blood of our people. Even if you just stand here, you can feel what your country is meant to do for you – it gives you strength. People’s Artist of Russia and actor Vladimir Mashkov said this in the latest episode of “Topic in Conversation” on the BelTA YouTube channel. Mashkov is the producer and lead actor in a new feature film about the Great Patriotic War.

The shooting of the film entitled “He Was Not on the List” began in Minsk and is currently underway in the Brest Fortress.

“This is my first time in the Brest Fortress and I have also seen this huge memorial for the first time. But I knew a lot about this place. We prepared very seriously for the filming of the movie. I have played military personnel very often in my acting career,” said Vladimir Mashkov.

He added that he knew a lot about the events of the war and that he had studied this subject very seriously because he wanted to follow his grandfather’s military career.

“My grandfather was in the war and liberated Königsberg. For this he was awarded the Order of the Red Star. An absolutely heroic man. He didn’t say much, but I managed to collect material about him after his death. As far as I know, he was in the reconnaissance service and commanded artillery units. In Königsberg they liberated 4 blocks of flats and captured 80 Nazis. I can imagine what blood and losses that cost them,” revealed the actor.

“But you know: the city of Brest, the surrounding area and the citadel – everything in this place is soaked with the blood of our dear people. When you stand here, you feel it. This country does what it is supposed to do – it gives you strength. You understand what difficulties people faced back then. You feel empathy and compassion for them. That is what makes us human,” Vladimir Mashkov shared his emotions.

The actor said he met a lot of people and could trust them. These were guys who were defending their homeland today. “They know what they are fighting for. There are also those who are helping on the home front, who are worried and talk about how they can no longer sit at home and want to help their comrades. I want to live among people like that,” the actor summed up.
