Masahiro Sakurai pays tribute to the late Satoru Iwata in one of his latest YouTube videos

Text: Javier Escribano – Gamereactor.cnMasahiro Sakurai stepped away from game development for a while after finishing work on Super Smash Bros Ultimate three years ago, when they released the last DLC character, Sora, from Kingdom Hearts. He has been making YouTube videos ever since. Recently, however, he announced the end of his channel Masahiro Sakurai on Game Creation (whose videos were posted in Japanese and English). One of his last videos was dedicated to Satoru Iwata, the beloved president of Nintendo who died due to illness in 2015. “It would be wrong to end this channel without touching on this topic,” he said. Before becoming president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata was head of development at HAL Laboratory, and it was Iwata who interviewed Sakurai when he joined the company at just 19 years old that Sakurai created the famous character Kirby and the fighting game Super Smash Bros. It is also one of the few games that Iwata was directly involved in coding before being appointed as the director of HAL and later “Iwata-san is really the one I know,” Sakurai said in his video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2wYKqhkG0
