One of the most prominent figures in the video game industry is Masahiro Sakuraidirector and creator of the saga Super Smash Bros. which is also recognized for having created Kirby among other titles. A reference that in recent times has transmitted all his wisdom to us through his YouTube channel, to which he now says goodbye but not before announcing that he is directing a new game from 2022.
“Up until that point, I had always gone straight from one job to another. Directors tend to stay on projects longer than anyone else. As one job nears the finish line, you’re often preparing for the next one, so you never get to rest. However, after all these years, by some miracle… my schedule was free for several months in a row! My next job was decided and I had already finished preparing for it, but the team had not yet met, which caused this longer-than-usual gap.”

What’s next in Masahiro Sakurai’s career? A new and mysterious project in which he is totally focused. A new Super Smash Bros. is one of the possibilities, but it will not be easy to overcome everything that the latest installment of the saga has put on the table. Revisit notable franchises in his career such as Kirby or Kid Icarus, a legendary license that he brought back to Nintendo 3DS with the excellent Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Time will give answers about Masahiro Sakurai’s future game, but his legacy and all the knowledge published over the years will remain valid for a long time on his YouTube channel.
