Mas Larrier, the future multitasking and eco-friendly gateway to the Nîmes Pont-du-Gard TGV station

The former agricultural farmhouse located on the site of the Nîmes Pont du Gard station is being renovated. An ecological building, which will house a restaurant and a tourist reception point.

The workers are busy, both inside and outside, to bring the Mas Larrier back to life, this agricultural building, located at the entrance to the Nîmes-Manduel TGV station. Classified as a Sustainable Building in Occitanie at the gold level, the farmhouse aims to respect the environment both in its future uses and in the work in progress.

The building is a few meters from the TGV station.

“This is a project that we have been following since 2017, says Nicolas Crégut, the architect who, with his partner Laurent Duport, is coordinating the work. It’s a bit of a laboratory of everything we can offer today, in terms of sustainable development. We use common sense, but also the use of new materials. We have voluntarily opened up a lot of possibilities and we work in close collaboration with companies and artisans.”

The new Mas Larrier will therefore be innovative in more ways than one. By having first retained certain somewhat forgotten techniques, such as stone walls. Or by using techniques never used before, such as mud brick walls or a wooden elevator shaft. “We had to give a real color to this project”insists Nicolas Crégut.

Thus, some beams of the framework were missing to rehabilitate the roof. It took some imagination. And this is how the carpenter managed to barter material salvaged from Mas Larrier for beams in good condition and perfectly reusable from a neighboring site. Short circuit and circular economy therefore reinforce the purpose of this project. And further justify the “BDO” label of Mas Larrier. Which is part of modernity, while retaining vestiges of its agricultural past.

Restaurant, offices, winegrowers and local products.

Mas Larrier is made up of three separate buildings. In the largest, on the ground floor will be a restaurant, with a large terrace overlooking the inner courtyard.

Above, in the only part mixing renovation and extension, will be installed coworking offices. Next door, in a second independent building, the independent winegrowers will set up their premises, with a reception area for the public.

In the block closest to the station, the third, connected to the first by a wooden extension. it is a shop of local products that will take place on the first level. Above, other offices and meeting rooms will be marketed.
