Mas Achmad Santosa Provides Suggestions for Legal Reform Acceleration Team in Indonesia

Mas Achmad Santosa step into Legal Reform Acceleration Team formed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md. The law enforcement figure in Indonesia has one suggestion for the team formed by Mahfud.

“My suggestion is that there are clear targets and priority scales. Prioritize those whose impact can restore public trust and be felt. It’s not easy,” said Mas Achmad Santosa to detikcomSaturday (27/5/2023).

Mas Achmad Santosa is a former Acting Chairman of the KPK, now the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indonesia Ocean Justice Initiative (IOJI) and a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. He was once active in the Supreme Court (MA).

Mas Achmad Santosa is a member of the Judicial and Law Enforcement Institution Reform Working Group, led by Professor Harkristuti Harkrisnowo in the Team for the Acceleration of Legal Reform formed by Mahfud.

“This was my old job when I was in the MA judicial reform team in the early 2000s, holding Law Summits 1 and 2 as well as in the early 2000s as a Partnership Advisor, and the Legal Mafia Eradication Task Force and UKP4 also took care of judicial institution reform,” said Mas Achmad Santosa.

“This is a challenge for everyone in the Team to be able or not to meet public expectations,” he said.

Mahfud Md signed the Decree of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Number 63 of 2023 concerning the Team for the Acceleration of Legal Reform, established on May 23, 2023. This team has a working period until the end of 2023, but can be extended by decision of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

The background to forming this team is the consideration of the need to optimize legal development. So, strategic steps were taken by Mahfud by synergizing between ministries/agencies and involving the community.

Many names entered in this team. There are former KPK leaders Laode M Syarif as well as famous names, such as Professor Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, Suparman Marzuki, Adrianus Meliala, Eros Djarot, Najwa Shihab, and others.
