Foot. food. talk
The queen of Polish songs, Maryla Rodowicz, invited Mróz – one of the biggest contemporary stars – to record a unique version of “Sing-Sing”.
Coming from the album of the same title released in 1976, “Sing-Sing” is not only a real gem in the artist’s career, but also one of the Polish songs of all time. The author of the music is Jacek Mikuła, and the lyrics were written by Agnieszka Osiecka. The new version of “Sing-Sing” with Mróz is an announcement of Maryla Rodowicz’s new project, in which the artist invited the most important contemporary stars of the Polish stage.
“The invitation to the new album of Maryla Rodowicz, an icon of Polish music, is one of those that cannot be refused and is extremely special to me,” admits Mrózu. “The Queen’s hit achievements are impressive – no less than her charisma, openness and commitment. I remember very well the vinyl records and cassettes that we had in our home collection. I would never have thought that we would be able to sit together in the studio, work, talk and, above all, give new life to one of my favorite songs by Maryla, “Sing-Sing”.
“The first meeting took place in my home,” recalls Maryla. “Beautiful weather, sun, garden. While eating a huge amount of pancakes with cheese, I came up with suggestions for songs for Mróz. We settled on “Sing-Sing”. This afternoon immediately turned into a small jam session. In the studio, Łukasz immediately knew what he wanted, he guided me like a little girl. From the very beginning, he had a vision for this song and consistently implemented it. I trusted him and I don’t regret it.”
The arrangement and production were supervised not only by Mrózu himself, but also by his regular collaborator, also known for his collaborations with Dawid Podsiadło and Sokół, DrySkull. Under their watchful eye, “Sing-Sing” gained a more dramatic, aggressive and gangster style, bringing to mind the best patterns of world retro-pop. “I hope that the new version will be interesting for older fans of the song and will attract completely new ones,” adds Mrozu.
The single’s visual complement is a music video in the same convention, directed by Michał Sierakowski, who has collaborated with, among others, with Kayah, Baranovski or the Karaś/Rogucki duo. The premiere of the video will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 11:11.
It is worth adding that on March 29, the premiere of the album “Sing-Sing” in SACD format took place, and the full remastered discography from the Polskie Nagrania catalog is now available on streaming services.
Who will appear in the next installments of the new project? The artist does not want to reveal all the cards at once – we will meet more special guests in the coming months. 2024 will definitely be Maryla’s year.
