High school students spent the day at Mary Kay’s Richard R. Rogers Manufacturing/R&D Center (R3) in Lewisville, TX where they toured a state-of-the-art facility and learned about different aspects of manufacturing processes related to STEAM disciplines in a global beauty products company. After the visit, the students heard from a panel of experts in their respective STEAM fields. The panel was made up of experts in areas such as upstream innovation, product formulation, information technology, product research, portfolio and strategy planning, and process development. In the afternoon, the students took part in a mentorship lunch where they had the opportunity to discuss different career paths for women in STEAM and their personal and professional aspirations, and learn how we we can better encourage, prepare and support young women pursuing careers in STEAM fields.

“Mary Kay is committed to empowering and inspiring the next generation of women to pursue their passions, because STEAM disciplines are the future,” said Dr. Lucy Gildea, Chief Innovation, Product and Science Officer, Mary Kay. “Women are underrepresented in the STEAM workforce, but we can close this gap by providing young women with crucial exposure and early learning opportunities so they can seek out and explore careers of interest in the fields STEAM. »

The Young Women’s Preparatory Network is a nonprofit agency that partners with public school districts across the state of Texas to operate the largest network of all-girl prep schools in the nation. The YWPN formed the first public/private partnership with the Dallas Independent School District, which resulted in the opening of the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School in 2004.

“We are thrilled to have our young women participate in a day filled with meaningful interactions with women working in STEAM fields, and we are grateful to Mary Kay for this opportunity,” said Lynn McBee, CEO, Young Women’s Preparatory Network. “These future leaders are bright and talented young women. Gaining exposure to successful women in STEAM fields and seeing the impact they can have gives them that extra motivation to go further, and hopefully one day change the world through STEAM disciplines. »
