According to Mary, her son and ex-daughter-in-law can still get through one door. According to her, this is mainly because Marco set a good example for her; Mary has been divorced twice. “When I see how he arranges things, I think: that’s exactly how I would have done it. Wait: that’s how I did it too!”

Much was written about the showbiz break. Still, Mary tried to avoid the news as much as possible. “I closed myself off from that: I didn’t watch showbiz shows, when I came across something on my phone I clicked it away and when people brought it up, I said, ‘I’m not home.'”

The singer has suffered from a serious burnout since January. “Such a burnout is tough, little by little it gets better. He has to deal with a lot”, his mother says about it. “Fortunately he has great friends around him and he and Leontine get along well. And together they are fantastic with the children.”

In February, Marco and Leontine put an end to their relationship. “After more than twenty years of marriage, we have decided with pain in our hearts to separate. We are grateful for the beautiful years that have been given us together,” they said in a statement at the time.
