Marvin Ducksch from Werder Bremen lacks understanding for some top players from European leagues moving to Saudi Arabia.
“I can’t understand some of them because I believe that one or the other has already earned a lot of money in his career,” said the 29-year-old.
Ducksch said he had turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia out of love for football. However, everyone should handle it “as they wish”. Many top players from Europe, such as Brazilian Neymar, are currently moving to the Saudi Pro League, and the clubs there are paying a lot of money for this.
“It wasn’t so specific that I flew over,” said Ducksch. There was an interest, but instead the attacker decided to extend his contract with the Hanseatic Bundesliga club, which expired in 2024, by two years until June 30, 2026. Meanwhile, Ducksch hopes his teammate Niclas Füllkrug will stay with Bremen. “He’s a very important player for us, including for me personally. We get along very, very well on the pitch.”
After the mixed start to the season with the DFB Cup loss at third division Viktoria Köln (2: 3) and the 0: 4 against FC Bayern Munich at the start of the Bundesliga, Werder will meet SC Freiburg away on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
