Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: So far two out of two: the deal with Disney won’t last long if the Japanese publisher falls short of its own expectations!
Square Enix has so far brought out two games from Disney-owned Marvel licenses. There’s Marvel’s Avengers, which didn’t win the trust of gamers with its live-service, live-service model (well, even PlayStation players who had to wait more than a year for the PlayStation 5 / PlayStation 4-exclusive Spider-Man to appear), and then for a month. nor did the microtransactions affecting the gameplay help much to improve the reputation.
And here’s the DLC-free Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, released last fall, as a single-player (but still requiring an Internet connection and huddled with Denuvo on a PC). About this Japanese publishing business in its report wrote that its sales did not bring the set level, while, for example, Outriders or Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 performed as expected. Matsuda Yosuke, the game’s director, said that the release period of the game adaptation made from the guardians of the galaxy was not lucky either, so FIFA 22 did not bring sales either, although (and this was written by Square Enix) the evaluations and tests were outstanding. they were good.
Square Enix has now set a goal to push sales. As a logical step, the Japanese will cut the price of the game and maybe get rid of Denuvo on PC, which we don’t see much of a chance in the free prologue to The Quiet Man in 2018, as well as Life is Strange 2, copy protection is still there in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, which can now be described as absolutely redundant (and costing because of the license).
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts was overwhelmed earlier when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn beat expectations to death (and no wonder it’s a sequel, and it’s already official, we wrote about it). So yes there is a demand for single player, AAA creations towards.
