Marvel’s Avengers is still not profitable for Square Enix

One of Square Enix’s biggest releases this year was Marvel’s Avengers, which was a very promising project. In practice the game was unfortunately a bit disappointing on some points, but Crystal Dynamics promised betterness in technical terms. A long content process has also been planned and that is what the publisher now has hope from.

It is now common knowledge that Marvel’s Avengers cost a lot of money to make and that the sales have not lived up to expectations. As a result, the game is still at a loss for Square Enix, which the president of the company (Yosuke Matsuda) attributes, among other things, to the massive marketing campaign surrounding its release.

Further hopes Square Enix will be able to smooth out the difference over time by releasing new content for the game in the future. For now, the focus is on selling more copies, which is why Square Enix does not want to provide a forecast for when the title will become profitable. Hence the new content is very important and with Kate Bishop and Spider-Man there is still plenty in the pipeline.

The company also states that they were well prepared for the release, but it could be better. They have also learned from this experience what they bring to new projects. Unfortunately, Matsuda was unable to go into further details.
