Square Enix Marvel Avengers could get an Avengers Infinity War-themed skin for Captain America, according to a recent and possibly accidental email announcement. The new skin would further expand the game’s standalone universe, which has grown steadily thanks to DLCs like the recent Black Panther-centric war for Wakanda.
Marvel’s Avengers did not have a successful launch, and while many technical issues with the game have been fixed and new content continues to be released, many fans believe the game has yet to land. Among the many criticisms are complaints about the cosmetics available to each hero and the heavy and often monetized routes players have been forced to follow to unlock them. This issue has eased somewhat since the game’s launch thanks to Square Enix’s commitment to release new content for the game, including unique skins for each playable character. While Marvel’s Avengers isn’t set in the same universe as the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, recently released additions like the Black Widow White Suit prove the game is happy to take on costumes from the popular movie franchise.

Captain America could be the next hero to receive the MCU treatment, according to a Marketplace update Square Enix sent to its subscribers via email. As Game Rant reports, an image of the skin has been featured alongside other upcoming skins for Iron Man, signaling that it will soon be added to the game’s store. As of this writing, Square Enix no has not released an official announcement for the skin, which has led many fans to believe this reveal was unintentional. Additionally, the Marketplace update was followed by a patch email, in which the Captain America skin was replaced with the Black Panther Civil War Outfit. The original image was posted on social media and can be seen on Marvel’s Avengers Updates Twitter page.
When it comes to unveiling fan-requested additions like the 2008 Iron Man MCU skin, Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics usually roll out the news with more fanfare. The fact that the fan-favorite Captain America Infinity War costume was unceremoniously announced is certainly curious. The suspicious change in the patch email is also odd and suggests that the reveal is a mistake rather than an official announcement.
The gruff, grizzly version of the star-spangled hero look has achieved iconic status since appearing in 2018 Avengers: Infinity War, so it would make sense for Marvel and Square Enix to want to build on that with Marvel’s Avengers. That said, fans of the game may have to wait a bit longer than expected to try out the skin. Hopefully the team behind Marvel’s Avengers can do the dark, brooding outfit justice if it does end up coming out.
