Marvel Studios Parts Ways with Screenwriters for Avengers 5 and 6: Setback for Upcoming Films

The next Avengers films are still a few years away. The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. But already both films are apparently plagued by a severe setback.

Avengers 5 and 6 without scriptwriters?

As a reliable insider reports, Marvel has probably parted ways with Avengers 5 and 6 from their authors. Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron are no longer involved in the Avengers’ fight against Kang(s) and would thus be eliminated from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you want us to help you: Michael Waldron was a writer on Loki and also wrote the screenplay for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scripted by Jeff Loveness.

Both writers previously worked on the hit sci-fi series Rick and Morty and seemed like obvious choices for the MCU and upcoming Avengers movies. As with Rick and Morty, Marvel is currently focusing heavily on multiverse stories.

Are Doctor Strange and Ant-Man to blame?

Waldron and Loveness may not have lived up to Marvel Studios’ expectations. Doctor Strange 2 is by no means a bad movie, but it fell far short of expectations for many viewers. Ant-Man 3 received meager reviews and also turned out to be a disappointment at the box office.

It has not been officially confirmed that Marvel is actually parting ways with its new Avengers authors. Only the usually well-informed insider wants that MyTimeToShineHello have experienced the scooper KC Walsh even supports that.

Should the report come true, it wouldn’t be a big surprise either: Waldron and Loveness are relatively inexperienced when it comes to working on big films and apparently didn’t impress with Doctor Strange and Ant-Man. That Marvel is now looking for new authors for the next big MCU highlight would not be completely absurd.
