L’issue d’Avengers : Endgame saw Captain America go back in time to replace the Infinity Stones but also to join Peggy Carter and spend the end of her days by her side. While many fans thought it would seal Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) adventures in the MCU, others think – after seeing the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier – that the super-soldier is still around. Indeed, Phases 3 and 4 did not formalize the death of the Avenger, just like Sam and Bucky did not mention the disappearance of their friend. All these elements therefore lead us to believe that he could still be alive.
If Captain America was alive, this would make his comeback all the more likely in the Marvel Universe. In addition, there are several rumors that Chris Evans will return to the MCU in Phase 4. If it seems that this is more of a theory rather than real information, remains that as long as Marvel Studios will not have formalized the death of the superhero, hope will remain. That being said, there are plenty of fans who have been fanning theories about Captain America’s next role in the MCU, one of which has made the super-soldier the future leader of the Avengers.
Given his maturity, his courage but also his sense of duty, Steve Rogers appears as the ideal leader. If the character came back under the aged features that were lent to him at the end ofAvengers : Endgame, moreover, this would offer him some wisdom. In addition, Steve Rogers could ally with leaders such as Captain Marvel or Nick Fury to guide the new superheroes. In addition, Captain America would represent an undeniable tactical ally in the face of what now threatens the Marvel universe, the Avenger having proven that he can rally many people to his cause.
Finally, a last possibility would be that he has a plan to reunite the new Avengers of Phase 4 and 5 in order to defend the Earth. Given the arrival of new characters, Captain America could be their guide facing the acquisition of their powers – having himself undergone the impact of Stark’s experiences – but also vis-à-vis future missions that will have to lead our heroes. Another possibility would be for him to become Sam Wilson’s mentor, with the latter now being the new Captain America. In any case, one thing is certain, his experience in the field, his strength but also his wisdom make him a natural leader for this Phase 4. So let’s hope that the superhero has not definitively disappeared!
