As the end of the year promises to be busy, here’s the order in which you would have to watch all of the previous Marvel movies to understand the story. Allow some time. End to end, it still represents more than 50 hours of viewing.
the Eternals (2022)
Difficult to place, as it is, because this new group of heroes acts over a very long period, which spans 7,000 years. The adventure features a group of immortal heroes who will have to come together (Yes, again) to fight against humanity’s oldest enemy, the Deviants. The film will land with a formidable cast, in particular Richard Madden in the role of the all-powerful Ikaris and Gemma Chan in that of Sersi, or even Kit Harington. Duration unknown.
CAPTAIN AMERICA : FIRST AVENGER (2011)
Marvel’s “Phase 1” begins in the midst of World War II, when skinny young Steve Rogers – played by Chris Evans – volunteers to take part in science experiments. He then becomes a super soldier and, helped in particular by Bucky Barnes, confronts the Hydra organization. It ends up frozen in the pack ice, where it will remain “in hibernation” for several decades. Duration: 2:04.
CAPTAIN MARVEL (2019)
In the 1990s, Carol Danvers becomes aware of her gigantic powers, as Earth is the scene of a clash between two alien races, the Kree and the Skrulls. Before returning to space, the one who has become Captain Marvel gives a pager to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) so that he can contact her in case of extreme emergency. Duration: 2:05.

IRON MAN (2008)

THOR (2011)
Played by Chris Hemsworth, the God of Thunder arrives in the Marvel Universe practically at the same time as is unfolding Iron Man 2. Punished by his father, Odin, he is sent back to Earth without his powers in order to learn humility. There he meets Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman. Duration: 1h55.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008)
Also in parallel with Iron Man 2, Doctor Bruce Banner confronts his green and overpowered double. In this film, the Hulk is then played by Edward Norton. Then Mark Ruffalo will take over the role. Duration: 2h15.
AVENGERS (2012)
Nick Fury, now director of the ground defense organization SHIELD, wants to build a team of superheroes. He enlists Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who must learn to fight together as the planet is invaded by an army led by Loki, the brother. from Thor.
The latter seeks to get his hands on the Tesseract, a blue cube which we will later learn contains an Infinity Stone. Duration: 2h23.
IRON MAN 3 (2013)
Following this first Avengers, Marvel is entering its “Phase 2” phase.
Traumatized by the invasion of Earth, Tony Stark begins to manufacture Iron Man armor in large quantities. Creations that are very useful to him when fighting The Mandarin. Duration: 2h11.
THOR: THE DARK WORLD (2013)
While Thor returns to his homeworld of Asgard, his girlfriend, Jane Foster, is kidnapped by the Dark Elves. These seek to seize the Ether, which is actually a second Infinity Stone. Eventually, Thor, aided by Loki, manages to defeat them. Duration: 1h52.
CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE WINTER SOLDIER (2014)
Steve Rogers has difficulty adapting to the modern world. Then, he realizes that SHIELD has been infiltrated by Hydra, who threatens to seize overpowered new weapons. Ally with the Falcon and the Black Widow, Captain America finds himself confronted with an old acquaintance: Bucky Barnes, who has become the Winter Soldier. Equipped with a formidable bionic arm, he manages to escape at the end of the film. Duration: 2h16.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2013)
A new team of anti-heroes appears, during an adventure that takes place in space. “Commanded” by Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) who calls himself Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon, Groot, Drax and Gamora join forces to fight the dangerous Ronan. He wants to seize a sphere, which in fact contains the third Infinity Stone. Duration: 2:05.
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (2015)
While attempting to build a new weapon, Tony Stark develops a new enemy: artificial intelligence Ultron. Despite dissensions, the superhero gang reformed to fight him. They notably meet the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. In the meantime, Ultron uses the Fourth Infinity Stone to create the enigmatic Vision. Duration: 2h22.
ANT-MAN (2015)
A new hero is entitled to his own film: Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd. This former burglar is given a suit by Doctor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) that allows him to change his height at will. Duration: 1h58.
CAPTAIN AMERICA : CIVIL WAR (2016)
Marvel initiates its “Phase 3”.
The Avengers are torn apart over the issue of political control of superheroes. Two camps are formed: Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Ant-Man and Falcon Eye oppose Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Black Widow. These are reinforced by two characters who make their appearance: Spider-Man and Black Panther. Duration: 2h28.
BLack Widow (2021)
The story of Black Widow, character played by Scarlett Johansson, takes place just after Civil War. We also learn during the film that the Avengers are still being hunted and that she must live in hiding. Several members of Natasha Romanoff’s (surprising) family are also featured in the film, including her sister, Yelena (Florence Pugh), who was also one of the Black Widows, as well as the Red Guardian. The film, expected in April-May 2020, was finally released in theaters in July 2021, due to the pandemic. Duration: 2h14.
BLACK PANTHER (2018)
After Civil War where his father, the King of Wakanda, is killed, Black Panther returns to his country to occupy the throne. But T’Challa finds himself battling mercenary Killmonger, played by an impressive Michael B. Jordan. Duration: 2h15.
SPIDER-MAN : HOMECOMING (2017)
Peter Parker, camped by young Tom Holland, resumes his normal life in New York. While he wants to become a superhero after fighting alongside part of the Avengers, he is restrained by Tony Star, who however takes him under his wing. Duration: 2h13
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 (2017)
Peter Quill meets his father, Ego, and learns who he really is. In the ensuing battle, mercenary Yondu sacrifices himself to save the one he considers his adopted son. At the same time, Gamora reconciles with her sister, Nebula. In the end, the latter goes in search of their “adoptive father”, Thanos, in order to kill him. Duration: 2h18.
DOCTOR STRANGE (2016)
Doctor Stephen Strange, played on screen by Benedict Cumberbatch, makes his debut in Marvel filmography. After a car accident, this talented surgeon partially loses the use of his hands. He then goes to Tibet, to The Elder, and learns magical and mystical arts, which he then uses to defeat Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) and the entity Dormammu. Duration: 1h55.
THOR: RAGNAROK (2017)
As he went into space in search of the Infinity Stones after Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor ends up imprisoned on the planet Sakaar, ruled by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). There, he finds the Hulk, whom he first faces in a Dantesque fight in a gladiator arena. Then, they escape together, aided by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), before returning to Asgard to face Thor’s evil sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett). Duration: 2h10.
AVENGERS : INFINITY WAR (2018)
All the superheroes team up to fight Thanos. Despite their efforts, the titan manages to seize the five Infinity Stones and then holds immeasurable power. With a snap of his finger, he makes half of the living beings in the universe disappear, including a large part of the heroes. In the end credits, before succumbing, Nick Fury calls on Captain Marvel. Duration: 2h40.
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP (2018)
In parallel with Infinity War, Scott Lang is now helped by Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who is fitted with the same type of costume. But, in the end credits, while Ant-Man is in the Quantum Dimension, Thanos’ finger snap removes Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym, who were responsible for bringing him back into our dimension. The superhero is therefore stuck in the infinitely small world. Duration: 2:05.
AVENGERS : ENDGAME (2019)
The survivors, made up largely of the original Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the Black Widow), will have to defeat Thanos. They will be joined by Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Falcon Eye and Valkyrie. Duration: 3:01.
SPIDER-MAN : FAR FROM HOME (3 JUILLET 2019)
While the first was released in 2017, the second installment of The Adventures of Peter Parker is the direct sequel – and end – of Avengers: Endgame. This film effectively closes “Phase 3” of Marvel and at the same time opens “Phase 4”. Several other productions are already in the pipeline for the future: The black Widow, The Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, Avengers 5. Duration: 2h13.

SHANG-SHI and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
The second Phase 4 movie is still difficult to categorize, as there is very little evidence for us to hook it up to the rest of the MCU. It tells the story of Shang-Shi, an Asian warrior, heir to a long family tradition, who must face the Mandarin, leader of the terrorist group of the Ten Rings.
