“Avengers Endgame” seemed to be saying goodbye to the character, but Chris Evans is reportedly in negotiations to reprise his role as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in at least one future Marvel movie.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the dead are never really dead, and goodbyes aren’t totally dead. While Loki has already proven it to us and will continue to do so with his own series, due in May on Disney +, Captain America is also doing it: Deadline claims today that Chris Evans is in negotiations to reprise the role and shield of Steve Rogers in an upcoming feature film, the title of which has not been released. And this while Avengers Endgame had given him what seemed like a perfect and coherent conclusion a little over a year ago, and that his interpreter had repeated several times that he would not be taken again there.
Will it be the elderly man who passed his shield on to Falcon (who will perform as a duet with the Winter Soldier on the small screen from March 19)? Or maybe a young version, even from a parallel world, crossed at the turn of a journey between the dimensions of Doctor Strange? It should be noted that the announcement falls while the filming of the new adventure of the Supreme Sorcerer played by Benedict Cumberbatch must resume as soon as sanitary conditions allow in Great Britain, which could mean that it is this project that Chris Evans prepares to join.
Deadline also speaks of an open door for participation in a second feature film, but it seems unlikely that the actor will return to a new episode of the Captain America saga. It would indeed be more logical to see him return in a supporting role, in the same way that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) had mentored Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in Spider-Man Homecoming. While waiting to learn more, the kickoff of Phase IV of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be given this Friday, January 15 with the first two episodes of the WandaVision series, where it will notably be a question of altered reality. And who knows if there won’t be any clues as to the conditions of Steve Rogers’ return?
