With so many movies that carry the Marvel brand on them, it is difficult for all of them to be perfect, especially when talking about the characters and their characteristics, since several underwent changes in their essence (some positive, others not so much).

On this occasion, we will focus on those who found the change counterproductive and therefore ended up on the blacklist of Marvel fans.

However, it should be clarified that the story does not end there, as these characters were reborn from the ashes to redeem themselves with stories and presentations much better than the first.

Characters that Marvel initially destroyed, but fixed later

Here are some of these characters that Marvel destroyed in their first presentation, but later improved them significantly.

This makes us regain faith that the MCU may be able to treat Fantastic 4 or Doctor Doom well in the near future.

Hulk

The first cinematic Hulk was played by Eric Bana, but people immediately hated him for his boring story, poor character development, and inability to project Bruce Banner’s personality on film.

Fortunately, the MCU took the reins with Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk, although the actor subsequently left the Marvel universe.

However, this benefited the character, as Mark Ruffalo gave him a better build in The Avengers.

Deadpool

It came as no surprise that 20th Century Fox tried to exploit the image of the mercenary in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in 2009.

Unfortunately, the character underwent a nasty turnaround at the end, when his mouth was shut and given powers from other mutants like Cyclops and Night Crawler, as well as putting retractable swords in his hands.

Thankfully, Ryan Reynolds managed to get Deadpool to hit theaters again, with a delivery that was more true to the comics, both in personality and comedic aspect, and now the MCU is expected to release the third film of the mercenary.

Juggernaut

X-Men: The Last Stand received a lot of criticism after its launch, for having a lower quality than the previous installment.

One of the most criticized points was the presence of Juggernaut, played by Vinnie Jones, since the character is very different from the comedians, since they presented him as a strong guy and nothing more.

This changed in Deadpool 2, where he became Russel’s partner (Fire Fist) to attack the orphanage run by Essex Corp. The difference with his previous version was immediately noticed, since this was a real threat.

Venom

Eddie Brock has two movie versions: one very bad and one a little better.

The first appeared in Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire and was played by Topher Grace. The character was very different from his comic book counterpart, much more violent and even playful, as well as bigger and more muscular.

After this debacle, it seems that Sony learned its lesson, since they made a character much more faithful to the comics, in the version that they launched in 2018 with Tom Hardy,

Daredevil

The Man Without Fear appeared in the early 2000s, in a terrible adaptation played by Ben Affleck.

There was hardly any action or a true crime fight in the film, something fans hated and that truncated the possibility of future sequels.

Fortunately, Netflix launched an original series with Marvel, which finally did justice to Daredevil, Kingpin, Elektra and other characters from Hell’s Kitchen.

This version was so popular and successful, that the actor who played Matt Murdock, Charlie Cox, could reprise the role for the MCU.

Ghost Rider

In the early 2000s, Jhonny Blaze had a couple of movies that went unglued. They starred the infamous Nicolas Cage and were hated by many of the fans.

The spirit of Ghost Rider returned after the character was taken over by Marvel Studios, to appear in various episodes of the series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where he became one of the most popular cast members.

What other characters do you remember that had bad previous versions, but got better years later?
