Martos on withdrawal of funds from the ONP: If Congress approves it, we will see the legal mechanisms to stop it

The president of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, indicated this Friday night that if Congress approves the bill that allows the withdrawal of 100% of the contributions of the ONP, as Executive they will see all the legal mechanisms to stop this rule.

The Plenary of Congress scheduled for this Friday the debate of this project, which has already passed through the Legislative Republic’s Commissions for the Defense of the Consumer, the Economy, the Budget and the General Account.

Faced with this situation, Martos met with the president of Congress, Manuel Merino, in the company of the ministers Marie Antoinette Alva (Economics and Finance) and Ana Neyra (Justice and Human Rights) to express the position of the Executive.

“As Executive we are making every effort on our part by coming to talk with Congress, trying to find an understanding to maintain the economic balance of the country. If this rule is still approved, we have the responsibility and obligation to see all the legal mechanisms that exist to stop it.”He told the press.

Economic imbalance

The holder of the Ministerial Cabinet indicated that an eventual approval of this initiative would represent an economic and budgetary imbalance in the country, because there would not be the necessary liquidity to pay the contributors. He added that currently the income in the fund is 200 million soles, while what must be paid monthly is 400 million and the difference is subsidized by the State.

If we return these contributions 100% to those who contributed, we would remain without paying pensioners and that is a big problem because it would cause a big problem, economic imbalance and budgetary imbalance in the countryAt this moment, with the few resources we have, we are committed to saving lives and we are concerned about people’s health, ”he said.

Martos also indicated that they presented a proposal to the banks and recognized that a comprehensive reform of the National Pension System. Along these lines, he said that they expect the Legislature to act with maturity and thoughtfulness to maintain the balance.

We are fully aware that the National Pension System has to be reformulated because there are many people who have unfairly contributed for 19 years and do not have a pension and they do not return it. We are fully aware of this ”, he added.
