After the meeting of the Competitiveness Council of the European Union (COMPET), which was attended by the ministers responsible for the internal market and industry, Márton Nagy drew attention to the process of losing European competitiveness has accelerated in recent years. He said: economic growth and the green and economic transition can begin with the Budapest Declaration on the Competitiveness Agreement.
He emphasized: the new geopolitical reality shows that it is very important to take decisive action in the field of competitiveness and prosperity because of the leading role of Europe. He emphasized: the internal market needs to deepen strategic jurisdiction, regulatory burdens need to be reduced and the business environment needs to be improved, especially for small and medium enterprises. Competitiveness must be based on productivity and innovation, not on raising trade barriers, ie protectionism – attract attention.
According to him, the discussion about the challenges involved in the European car industry showed that climate goals must be brought in line with the goals of industrial policy and competitiveness. The minister sees the problem because the European Union has “progressed” in terms of climate goals, and has not changed its business strategy accordingly.
“We did not help the automotive industry to achieve this goal and make the green transition a reality,” said Márton Nagy, then added:
the 2035 climate target must be reached and the transition to electric cars must be made.
Marton Nagy says: at the council meeting, there was a debate about whether or not nuclear energy is considered clean, ie energy with zero emissions. The interest in the debate is whether it is possible to support nuclear energy from the European Union budget or from national budgets with state support – he explained.
In this regard, Hungary’s position is clear: Hungary considers nuclear energy as green and clean energy
– he emphasized. A country that has cheap energy can move to electric cars faster and can also save its industry, said the Minister of National Economy.
