On Tuesday (October 6, 2020) the city of Wuppertal decided: Martin’s parades will be temporarily banned due to the worrying corona infection.

EXPRESS asks in NRW cities
Planning of the Martin parades in NRW varies from city to city
Although the hope for Wuppertal Sankt Martins trains has not yet been completely lost – if the corona incidence value should fall, the ban could be revoked – the city of Wuppertal has set an example in North Rhine-Westphalia with the decision.
Martin moves despite Corona: EXPRESS asks NRW cities
But what about other cities in North Rhine-Westphalia: Are they also planning to call off traditional Martin parades when the incidence rate rises? Have Martin’s parades been canceled on your own initiative in some cities?
EXPRESS asked the cities of North Rhine-Westphalia – with varying results.
In some cities the St. Martin trains have already been canceled on their own initiative, for example in Paderborn and Bergisch Gladbach.
While the Martin’s parade in Paderborn was officially canceled by the organizer, the St. Martin’s Committee in Paderborn, at the beginning of September, the schools in Bergisch Gladbach decided to cancel the Martin’s parades themselves at the end of September.
Bergisch Gladbach and Paderborn decide against Martin’s parades
Saint Martin’s activities in the school yard, on the other hand, could take place, as the staff for extraordinary events in the city of Bergisch Gladbach decided. At the time it was still said: “The city administration recommends avoiding major moves in the street area, since the number of participants is difficult to limit.”
The information in the cities of Hürth and Bonn was similarly vague. “In Hürth, too, it ultimately depends on the infection process and whether this is local or the entire city. Therefore, a statement about a general rejection is currently not possible, ”said Hürth’s press officer Willi Pütz on Tuesday (October 6, 2020) in an interview with our editorial team.
Marc Hoffmann, deputy press spokesman for the city of Bonn, told our editorial team: “The crisis team of the city of Bonn will deal with the consequences or effects in the event that the corona incidence value in Bonn rises to 35.”
Bonn and Hürth make Martinszüge dependent on infection events
In Leverkusen they didn’t want to lean too far out of the window either: In an interview with EXPRESS, Heike Fritsch, deputy press spokeswoman, said on Tuesday that they had not yet made a decision in this regard.
The head of department will take the topic with him to the next meeting of the crisis team, where the Martin moves will be discussed afterwards. A decision will be made on Wednesday (October 7th) at the earliest.
